How I Freeze-dry Basil at Home! (Harvest Right Freeze Dryer)

Ep. 206  |   6m   |   2020   |   with Mom
It seems that in the past few years, freeze dried items have become quite popular, and there is a very good reason for this. Unlike other food-preservation-methods, freeze-drying retains 97% of the nutritional value, while dehydrating retains 60% and canning 40% (according to the Harvest Right website). In addition, freeze dried food can last up to 25 years and maintains fresh flavor and color. So today we are talking about Freeze Drying Basil at home. This company does not sponsor me, but some of you asked me how we freeze-dry in my home, so here it is. https://harvestright.com

Ep. 199  |   7m   |   2020   |  Chef Ani
One of the beauties of summer is all those beautiful red tomatoes that are so prevalent this time of year. They taste and look amazing, but what about the green ones, can they be used too? Yes, indeed, and quite deliciously if I you ask me. This recipe is one of my dad’s absolute favorite recipes. He grew up down South and often remembers Green Fried Tomatoes with nostalgic warmth. Of course, the ones he grew up with were neither vegan nor baked, but we found a way to make them a little healthier without sacrificing taste. So, today we are making my dad’s favorite: Vegan Baked Fried Green Tomatoes.

My dad loves this cake. You can be so creative when decorating this cake. You can add some blueberries and make it a red, white, and blue cake for the 4th of July or you can decorate it with lemons and mint for a different look. I chose to decorate with raspberries and mint this time. It is Raspberry Season, and the berries are large, sweet, juicy, and flavorful. What a perfect time to make a Raspberry Cake.

A life-long vegetarian and now a plant-based chef, she enjoys junk food as much as the next guy, but realizes that though it tastes good, it is not good for her. Have you ever heard the saying: “You are what you eat”? Well, science is telling us that this is absolutely true. The food choices we make today are super important to how we feel and operate tomorrow. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could come up with recipes that do both, taste delicious and make us feel wonderful? That is chef Ani's quest.
