  • The Cetacean family consists of whales, dolphins and porpoises.
  • The Orca or killer whale is among the “toothed whales.” It will eat other marine mammals like sea lions, seals, squids and more.
  • It is a “apex predator” meaning there is nothing that will hunt it for food.
  • The Orca only has one blow-hole.
  • An Orca in the wild can live 50-80 years!
  • They can grow to be the size of a bus!
  • Orcas are very social and live in groups called pods, which usually have up to 40 members.
  • They live in groups called "pods" and have very complex societies--like elephants.

Cool Fact:

Spyhopping is act of the whale rising and holding it’s head in a vertical position above the water. This is similar to a human treading water. This allows the whale to look around at its surroundings.
