Listen to a cricket and count how many times it chirps in 15 seconds.
Write that number down on a piece of paper.
Subtract that number from the temperature.
This is the “magic number.” For example, if the temperature was 70 degrees and your cricket chirped
40 times, your magic number would be 30.
Now you can figure out the temperature any time you want to. Just count the number of cricket chirps in 15 seconds and add your magic number. The number you get is the temperature!
Crickets make their songs by rubbing the teeth of the file on one wing against the scraper on the other. Each “chirp” is actually a complicated combination of vibrations and harmonics. Truly it is a wonderful God who can create one of His “creeping things” with such amazing abilities. Each sound made by the cricket is one of praise to his Creator as it tells of the quality of God’s work in making the insect.
Look up these Bible verses and see how they apply to the lesson:
Genesis 1:24, Romans 1:20, Ecclesiastes 12:1
“Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands! Serve the Lord with gladness; Come before His presence with singing.”
